I lost a dear cousin to a gun in June 2005. Terry was only 50 years old when he died saving his family. His ex-wife was heading to their home to work out the relationship. They didn’t know her ex-boyfriend was following her. Mr.Green, the man who shot my cousin, was seen heading up to my cousin’s home.

No one in my family knows what happened next. An argument broke out, my cousin got his gun to try to scare Mr.Green off his yard. Well, that didn’t happen. Mr.Green grabbed his gun from the car and opened fire on my cousin, not knowing there were children in the home with his ex-wife. The children ran out the back to their uncle’s place. 911 was on the way, but by the time they got there, both men where dead on the scene.

I still remember the phone call I got that night. My father calls me, tells me something has happened, and asks me sit down. I asked what was wrong, and he told me Terry was gunned down at home. I was speechless and couldn’t believe what was said. It has been seven years now and the pain is still here. Terry’s mom blames herself for his death. We have kept telling her she’s not to blame. Now she barely even talks about it cause of Alzheimer’s disease. I hate to say it, but it’s a blessing that it’s getting worse cause it will ease her pain.
